Of course every home should have at least one smoke detector - preferably two, three or more and a good fire alarm system is essential for peace of mind.
We therefore offer options for the residential situation. These detectors could be a mix of the various technologies mentioned below and could be stand alone but preferably part of a system.
These detectors can be either connected into your intruder alarm system if you have one, or mains fed units that are interlinked to each other so that they detect independently but then trigger each other in the event of fire.
Finally, these devices could be connected to a standalone fire alarm control panel which could ultimately call the emergency services.
The different types of detection are created by the following:
Responds quickly to fast flaming fires.
Unique long life ionization chamber.
More responsive to slow smoldering fires.
High performance optical chamber
This type of detector is less likely to cause false alarms as they are responsive only to heat and therefore have a slower response than smoke detectors. This type of detector is utilized where smoke detection would be impractical i.e. especially in, or close to kitchens, boiler rooms or in garages. In these instances rate of rise heat detectors would be the preferred choice.
Battery only devices
Although a battery operated smoke detector is better than nothing in the home, it is worrying that if the batteries run out the detector will become inactive. These types of smoke detectors are to be found in the DIY outlets.
Safer types of smoke detectors are those connected to the house mains electricity supply and include battery back up to ensure operation in the event of a power failure.
Installation of these smoke detectors must be carried out by a competent electrician or fire protection engineer.
Safe & Sound recommended approach to fire protection in the home is to integrate smoke alarms into your home security alarm system.
We can install smoke detectors as an additional safety device to your existing intruder alarm system.
Your home security can be monitored 24 hours a day, 365 days a year for protection against intrusion and fire
It is recommended that you should test your smoke alarm regularly; all smoke detectors should have a test facility.
Normal smoke detector cannot detect carbon monoxide leakage, for which you need a Carbon Monoxide Detector.
Safe & Sound can help to maintain your smoke alarm through regular servicing.
